Graeme Souness believes that Manchester City have the "strongest group" heading into the new season.

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness believes that Manchester City have the "strongest group" ahead of the 2013-14 season.

The Scotsman has claimed that new manager Manuel Pellegrini's management style could lead City to the title, which they lost hold of last season to Manchester United, who begin the campaign with new boss David Moyes.

"I believe a year ago City had the strongest group and I believe now they have the strongest group," Souness told Sky Sports' Football Season Preview Show.

"But that does not mean they are going to win it. But I do like the manager they have got. I think he's a manager who keeps it simple."

City have acquired the services of Fernandinho, Stevan Jovetic, Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas so far in the summer transfer window.
