Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has paid tribute to captain Fabian Delph for showing loyalty after rejecting a move to Manchester City.
Delph, who signed a new contract in January, was expected to join the Citizens last week, but confirmed that he would remain with the Villans.
Sherwood has suggested that Delph's presence will help the club build in years to come.
He told the club's official website: "We are looking to build something here and we're looking to keep our best players.
"Fabian is certainly one of those. It's just an example of the measure of the guy really that he decided to stay - the loyalty he's shown to the fans, the football club and the chairman. And I'm delighted to have him here next season."
Delph joined Villa from Leeds United in 2009.
