Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany returns for Tottenham Hotspur clash

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirms that Vincent Kompany will return to action for Saturday's visit to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that captain Vincent Kompany will return to the squad for this weekend's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Belgium international missed last weekend's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United with a calf injury.

Now though, the former English champions have been boosted by the return of their skipper, but David Silva will play no part in Saturday's encounter at White Hart Lane.

"It's important for the team to have Vincent back," Pellegrini told reporters in today's press conference. "He's just recovering, he's the captain and he played well at the start of the season. Not just defending but he scored three goals also.

"We've had a lot of different injuries so it's not just one reason but that's why it's important to have a squad."

Meanwhile, Eliaquim Mangala is unlikely to return to action until after next month's international break.
