A late goal from Samir Nasri has earned Manchester City a vital 2-1 win at home to Chelsea.

City came close to taking the lead after eight minutes, but Nasri's flick over Petr Cech came back off the crossbar.

Fernando Torres flashed a shot wide minutes later in what was a difficult first half for the visitors.

Mario Balotelli should have done better for the hosts on 29 minutes when he intercepted a loose pass from Frank Lampard before running in on goal. However, the Italian could only steer his shot wide of the post.

As City continued to push after the break, Nasri hit the woodwork again when his cross clipped the bar.

Despite being under pressure from City, Chelsea took an unexpected lead on the hour when Gary Cahill's deflected effort found a way past Joe Hart following a corner.

As the home side mounted further attacks in the search for an equaliser, manager Roberto Mancini brought on Carlos Tevez to give the controversial Argentine his first game since September.

The home side got level with 13 minutes to play as Sergio Agureo slotted in from the penalty spot after substitute Jon Obi Mikel had handled.

City found the winner in the 86th minute when Nasri exchanged passes with Tevez before the Frenchman deftly lifted the ball home.

The victory saw Mancini's side set a new Premier League record as they notched up their 20th consecutive home win.
