Ajax rule out Matthijs de Ligt January exit

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars insists there is 'no chance' of Matthijs de Ligt leaving the Dutch giants in January.

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has said that there is 'no chance' of Matthijs de Ligt leaving the Dutch giants during the January transfer window.

De Ligt, 19, is widely regarded as one out of the outstanding young central defenders in world football and has been linked with a number of clubs over the last couple of years.

Barcelona and Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for the 10-time Netherlands international, and the player recently talked-up a future switch to Camp Nou.

Overmars, however, has ruled out the possibility of De Ligt leaving Ajax at the start of 2019.

"The chances of De Ligt leaving Ajax in January are 0%," Overmars told LaRoma24.

De Ligt, who has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2021, has already made 76 first-team appearances for his Dutch club in all competitions.
