Manchester City are reportedly plotting a move for Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse in January.
The Senegal forward has rediscovered his scoring touch this season and netted a brace in the Magpies' 2-1 win over Chelsea last Saturday.
According to the Daily Star, City manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to add a striker to his squad in the New Year and has identified the Newcastle frontman as his prime target.
It is thought that Pellegrini is willing to test Alan Pardew's nerve with an offer, but he is also monitoring alternative targets such as West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino and Aston Villa's Christian Benteke.
City are currently three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
