Pep Guardiola expects Sergio Aguero to sign new contract

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that he will be "so happy" if Sergio Aguero signs a 12-month extension to remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2020.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is hopeful of seeing star striker Sergio Aguero sign a new contract at Manchester City after his impressive start to the campaign.

The Argentina international, who is currently one game into a three-match domestic ban, has nine goals in five outings for the Citizens already this season.

Reports emerged this week suggesting that the 28-year-old was close to extending his current deal at the Etihad Stadium by a further 12 months, keeping him in place until 2020 and fending off any interest from elsewhere.

"I think he will extend but it is not official," Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday afternoon's Premier League tie against Bournemouth. "He is a good player. If he stays I will be so happy."

Guardiola also revealed that Ilkay Gundogan is in his plans to feature against the Cherries, just three days on from making his debut after a prolonged spell on the sidelines, but injured midfielder David Silva is unlikely to play any part.
