Sergio Aguero's former club Independiente hope to tempt the Manchester City striker into returning home this year, according to a report.

Independiente are reportedly ready to go all out to bring Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero back to the club later this year.

The 31-year-old spent close to a decade with the Argentinian club - three of those in the first team - prior to joining Atletico Madrid in 2006.

After making a name for himself in Europe with Atletico and winning 10 major honours in nine seasons with City, Independiente are supposedly hopeful that Aguero is ready to return home.

According to reports in his native South America, El Rojo have launched 'Operation Aguero' in a bid to persuade the prolific striker to quit the Etihad Stadium a year before his contract expires.

Aguero has scored 254 goals in 368 appearances for City, making him the club's all-time leading goalscorer.
