John Stones's future at Manchester City has reportedly been placed in doubt after the club stalled on commencing talks over a new contract for the player.
Due to a series of injury problems, the Englishman has not played five games in a row for almost a year at the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola recently admitted that the defender was yet to fulfil his potential at City following his latest injury against Manchester United.
According to The Mirror, Stones is expected to receive fresh terms this season, with two years left on his current deal, but negotiations are yet to start.
City have struggled in the central defence area this season following the failure to replace Vincent Kompany over the summer.
Guardiola has resorted to using midfielders Rodri Hernandez and Fernandinho at the back, along with calling up youngsters Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Eric Garcia.
