Manchester City are reportedly still interested in acquiring the services of Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich, as the player enters the final 18 months of his contract.

Manchester City have reportedly confirmed that they are still interested in acquiring the services of Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich next season.

Kimmich is approaching the last year and a half of his current contract at the Allianz Arena, and there is no guarantee as yet that he will prolong his time in Munich.

Despite strengthening their midfield with the acquisitions of Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Nunes this summer, it is understood that Manchester City are actively seeking additional options.

According to a report by 90min, the Citizens retain their interest in the German international and are considering making a move for the player in 2024, when he could be entering the final year of his current deal with the Bavarians.

The report adds that despite the 28-year-old's readiness to join Man City last summer, the German club had no intention of allowing him to leave, but they may be forced into a sale next year if he does not agree to sign a new contract.

During his time in Germany, Pep Guardiola brought Kimmich to Bayern Munich, and it is understood that the City boss rates the player as one of the best in the world.

The reported interest of Manchester City in Kimmich also suggests further setbacks for Kalvin Phillips, who could be permitted to depart the club if suitable offers are presented.

Phillips, who arrived from Leeds United for an initial fee of £42m, has played only 167 minutes in all competitions this season, following last campaign, where he featured for just 593 minutes.
