Manchester City reportedly turn down Al-Nassr's opening offer for Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who appears to be open to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Manchester City have reportedly turned down Al-Nassr's opening offer for goalkeeper Ederson.

The 30-year-old has been Man City's undisputed number one since joining the club from Benfica in the summer of 2017.

Ederson has gone on to make 332 appearances for the Citizens, helping the club win six Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Although he still remains a key player at the Etihad Stadium, Man City are now facing a battle to retain his services for the 2024-25 season.

Man City reject Ederson bid

It was recently reported that the Brazilian shot-stopper had been the subject of a £25m bid from an unnamed Saudi Pro League side.

That club has now been revealed as Al-Nassr, who are currently home to a number of high-profile players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic and Ederson's former Man City teammate Aymeric Laporte.

According to The Mirror, Man City have rejected Al-Nassr's initial offer, leaving the Saudi Arabian club to decide whether to return with an improved bid.

Al-Nassr are believed to be willing to offer the Man City man a lucrative two-year contract worth around €60m (£51m).

While the Citizens cannot match those terms, they are prepared to give Ederson a 75% pay increase to extend his current deal which runs until June 2026.

Is Ederson ready to leave Man City?

Man City may be willing to offer Ederson a new contract, but they will not stand in his way if he decides that he wants to leave the club.

The current indication is that the Brazilian is ready for a fresh challenge and is keen to complete a move to the Saudi Pro League.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the proposed deal now rests on whether Al-Nassr can reach an agreement over a transfer fee, with Man City believed to be holding out for €50m (£42m).

If Ederson does depart, there is an expectation that his current understudy Stefan Ortega will be promoted to Pep Guardiola's first-choice goalkeeper.

Ortega, who kept eight clean sheets in 20 appearances last term, recently signed a new deal to extend his two-year stay with Man City until the summer of 2026.
