Manuel Pellegrini: Contract extensions "important" for Manchester City

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that offering the team's top players long-term contracts is vital for the club's future.

Manuel Pellegrini has said that giving Manchester City's top players contract extensions is "important" for the club's future.

Captain Vincent Kompany, striker Sergio Aguero and David Silva have all committed their long-term futures to the club this summer.

The manager told reporters: "I think it is very important for the club to retain the best players.

"I think it is also important for the club that they want to stay here because they are working very well and this is a club that has a lot of ambition for the future.

"They understand that, and maybe you will know in the next few days about other players who extend their contracts."

The current Premier League champions have also made six new signings so far this summer.
