Louis van Gaal: 'Manchester United are not in group stage yet'

Louis van Gaal warns Manchester United that Champions League elimination remains a possibility ahead of their second-leg playoff at Club Brugge.

Louis van Gaal has warned Manchester United against complacency in tomorrow's Champions League second leg at Club Brugge as a group-stage place beckons.

The Red Devils bring a 3-1 aggregate lead with them to Belgium after a brace from Memphis Depay and Marouane Fellaini's late strike did the damage at Old Trafford last Tuesday.

With a 2-0 win enough to see Brugge progress, however, Van Gaal is adamant that there is still work to be done before they officially return to the big time of European football.

"We are still not there yet, it's very important," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"We have to play the game, at the end you have to have scored more than one goal than the opponent.

"They have beaten Greek opponents 3-0, they are capable of doing that with the support of their fans."

Michael Carrick's eighth-minute own goal saw the Belgian outfit take the lead last week.
