Defender Luisao identifies Wayne Rooney as Benfica's main threat this evening.

Benfica defender Luisao has claimed that his side must nullify the threat of Wayne Rooney if they are to defeat Manchester United in the Champions League this evening.

Rooney has been in fine goalscoring form so far this season, hitting eight goals in four Premier League matches.

Veteran centre-back Luisao believes that Rooney will need to be stopped, but has also acknowledged that the travelling United squad possesses a number of attacking options.

"We need to stop Wayne Rooney to win the game. He is a star worldwide but even players like him can have off-days," the 30-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"Rooney is not the only danger in the Manchester United side. All their players can create problems for us.

"We know that we have to be near-perfect to win the game and that is our challenge."

Luisao has spent eight years in the Portuguese capital with Benfica.
