David Moyes: 'Liverpool 2005 triumph can inspire Manchester United'

David Moyes tells his Manchester United side to take inspiration from Liverpool's 2005 Champions League win as they look to turn their season around.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has told his squad to take inspiration from Liverpool's 2005 Champions League triumph as they look to turn around their faltering season.

The Red Devils travel to Greece to face Olympiacos in the last 16 of the competition and while some of the continent's big names are still in contention, Moyes is refusing to give up hope of lifting the trophy.

He told the Sunday Mirror: "It isn't always the best teams that get to the final in Europe. Liverpool in 2005 gives us hope, but in any cup competition you always have a chance.

"I knew it was going to be a hard competition before it started. Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG are all top clubs.

"You see some of the games, where teams have hung on and hung on and somehow nicked a goal."

United are currently unbeaten in this season's Champions League.
