Manchester United have succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away at PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League Group B clash at the Philips Stadion, a game marred by a horrific injury to Red Devils defender Luke Shaw.

The visitors were first to threaten as Memphis Depay received a high ball and darted down the wing before firing a low cross into the box, but it proved just too heavy for Anthony Martial, whose overreaching toe-poke fell nicely to Jeroen Zoet.
Man Utd continued to press as Ashley Young weighed in with a number of crosses that caused panic in the PSV defence, but the game was brought to a halt in abrupt fashion on the quarter-hour mark.
Left-back Shaw, charging down the pitch during an attack, was brought down by a Hector Moreno tackle and, following a stoppage of several minutes, had to be stretchered off the pitch with an oxygen mask.
The game lost its tempo after the long stoppage, both sides having to work their way back into gear, but the hosts soon got back into the groove as Juan Mata's delivery from the right was nodded just wide from Martial.

Eventually Man Utd broke the deadlock courtesy of Depay, playing against the club where he made his name, as he collected Daley Blind's pass on the edge of the area before gliding through two challenges and slotting home.
However, the Dutch giants were back on level terms in first-half injury time when Maxime Lestienne's corner was headed home by Moreno, ensuring that the tie would be a draw at half time.
Man Utd were quickest off the starting blocks in the second half as Depay played a one-two with Martial before rifling an effort onto the hands of Zoet six minutes after the restart.
It proved a false dawn for Louis van Gaal's charges as PSV edged themselves in front just six minutes later, Lestienne's delivery once again causing havoc for the visitors as his cross was thumped into the net by Luciano Narsingh.

The Red Devils set about trying to get back into the game, with Bastian Schweinsteiger sending a floated pass over the top for Mata, whose hesitation saw the ball bobble away under his studs just after the hour.
Martial, the most expensive teenager in the world, wasted a great opportunity for his side in the 78th minute when he received a smart pass inside the area and blasted narrowly wide of the left post.
Despite an increasingly desperate late flurry by Man Utd, they could not breach the PSV defence for a second time, as the final whistle saw the Dutch giants secure all three points and give the Premier League side a sour return to European football.
