England forward Wayne Rooney admits that his performances in previous international tournaments have not been good enough.

Wayne Rooney has claimed that his previous tournament performances for England have not been good enough.

The 26-year-old will make his first appearance at Euro 2012 against Ukraine on Tuesday after serving his two-game suspension for being sent off in the Three Lions' 2-2 draw with Montenegro in October.

Rooney scored four goals at Euro 2004, however he failed to add to his international tournament tally at either Euro 2008, where he was also sent off, or World Cup 2010.

"I owe England something," said the Manchester United forward. "I set myself high standards, I work hard at my game but I haven't been good enough at the major tournaments.

"So I hope this is my moment and I will be doing everything to make sure it is. England are a massive football team and a massive football nation. But for as long as I can remember, we haven't delivered.

"Our country needs to be winning trophies and with this great group of young players we really have a chance."

Rooney has scored 28 senior international goals in 74 appearances.
