Sir Alex Ferguson says that Dimitar Berbatov "could" feature in Manchester United's Europa League tie with Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that Dimitar Berbatov "could" play against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League on Thursday.

Despite scoring 21 goals in 42 games for the club last season, Berbatov has found himself out of the team for large spells during the current campaign, with Ferguson admitting that he has "good options" in the striking positions.

"He could play tomorrow but I have good options with front players. His contract situation is we will be taking it up," Ferguson told reporters.

Ferguson also insisted that he is confident United can overcome last Thursday's 3-2 first-leg loss to Bilbao.

"We'll try to win. It needs a good performance to do that. We have to hope our performance is better than it was at Old Trafford and I'm sure it will be."

United return to domestic action against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
