Coronavirus latest: Timeline of sport's response on Thursday, April 16

The Indian Premier League became the latest sporting casualty of coronavirus while Manchester United and Chelsea continue their efforts to support the NHS.

1103: Manchester United reveal Old Trafford will turn blue at 8pm on Thursday as part of their efforts for the clap for carers tribute.

1206: The Indian Premier League will be postponed indefinitely with India on lockdown until at least May 3.

1300: Leeds say club former defender Norman Hunter remains ‘severely unwell’ as he battles coronavirus in hospital.

1305: Chelsea will start providing 78,000 meals to NHS staff and charities which support the elderly and vulnerable.

1338: World Rugby reveals an £80million relief fund for struggling unions.

1400: The PGA announces a new golf calendar with the sport returning in June behind closed doors.

1527: Partick Thistle say they will not take legal action against the SPFL after being relegated as a result of the governing body’s season-ending resolution.

1700: Wigan announce their players and senior staff have agreed to defer a percentage of their wages for three months.

1824: Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann believes players’ wages should be suspended while there are no games. “We sign players on contracts to play in the Football League and that is the job they do, play football in front of fans for a set number of games,” he said in a letter released to the PA news agency. “They earn money on appearances, promotion, and relegation under those rules and I feel if the league is suspended then the players wages should be suspended until the resumption of full training and a resumption date confirmed.”

1901: Rangers are examining “all legal options” after again calling for an independent inquiry into the SPFL’s handling of the vote to end the season outside of the Scottish top flight.

2115: UEFA is considering the option of finishing the Champions League and Europa League competitions in August once domestic leagues are completed, the PA news agency understands.
