Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will make his return from injury for the club's Under-21s on Monday.
United and England captain Rooney has been out since mid-February with knee ligament damage and there were murmurings that he might feature in Sunday's trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Van Gaal has ruled out that possibility and said that the forward will sharpen his match fitness for the club's Under-21s against Middlesbrough.
"It's going well but he has only trained with us two times so he has to build up his capacity in the Under-21s," Van Gaal told reporters.
Van Gaal also revealed that Ashley Young and Phil Jones are in contention to feature against Spurs, but Adnan Januzaj will miss the contest with an injury.
