Manchester United's Guillermo Varela out for three to four months with injury

Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela will reportedly be out for three or four months after suffering ankle ligament damage while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela will be on the sidelines for the next three to four months after suffering an ankle injury while on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Uruguayan joined the Bundesliga club in July on a season-long loan after failing to break into United's first team.

At the weekend, the 23-year-old damaged his ankle ligaments in a collision with Darmstadt 98 striker Sven Schipplock.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the defender, who signed for United from Penarol in 2013, is not expected to play again in 2016.

Varela's loan expires on June 30, 2017.
