Good afternoon! Thank you very much for joining
Sports Mole for this Premier League clash between
Swansea City and
Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium. Both of these sides come into this match in desperate need of a victory, so we should be in for an intriguing affair in South Wales here. Let's start with a look at the two teams...
SWANSEA STARTING XI: Fabianski; Rangel, Van der Hoorn, Mawson, Kingsley; Routledge, Ki, Britton, Sigurdsson; Borja, Llorente
SWANSEA SUBS: Nordfeldt, Naughton, Amat, Cork, Fer, Barrow, Montero
MAN UTD STARTING XI: De Gea; Young, Jones, Rojo, Darmian; Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Pogba, Rooney; Ibrahimovic
MAN UTD SUBS: Romero, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Lingard, Schneiderlin, Martial, Rashford
Some interesting selections from both managers today, then, but let's start with a look at the home side.
Bob Bradley, by his own admission, is still looking for his best formula at Swansea, and once again he has changed things up today. He has deployed three different systems in his three games so far, and today he switches from a single striker to two up front as Borja Baston comes into the side to partner compatriot Fernando Llorente.
Both players have proven that they can score goals in top leagues, so if they can link up well together then it could be a much-needed boost for Swansea's attacking qualities, which will naturally help them to pick up some elusive victories. The system does, however, leave them with just four in midfield and the possibility of getting outnumbered in the middle of the park. The 4-4-2 formation worked wonders for Leicester last season, but the style of football they played was very different to what Swansea will play so it remains to be seen whether it will work for Bradley.
Bradley has made four changes in all from the side that was beaten by Stoke on Monday night, with two of those coming in the midfield area as both Fer and Barrow drop to the bench. Borja is one of those to come in as a replacement, while Leon Britton also returns to the starting XI alongside Ki in the middle of the park. Routledge and Sigurdsson, meanwhile, are expected to give Swansea width, although Sigurdsson could chop and change with Ki on the left.
The other two changes come in defence as Naughton, who has been struggling with illness this week, drops to the bench, while Taylor misses out altogether on the opposite flank. Rangel and Kingsley come in for the full-back pair, while Van der Hoorn and Mawson - who scored an own goal last time out - continue at the heart of the defence. There is also a spot on the bench for Jefferson Montero, who has been sidelined since September with a calf injury.
As for Manchester United, there are plenty of possible headlines from
Jose Mourinho's selection, including the return of
Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the starting lineup. The Swede was dropped to the bench for the match against Fenerbahce on Thursday, but did come on after just half an hour. He is currently going through one of the worst spells of his career in terms of goals having failed to scored since September 10 - a run of six Premier League games that followed four in his first four league outings for the club. He has now failed to score with his last 42 shots in the Premier League.

Despite Zlatan's return to the starting XI, Wayne Rooney also keeps his place having returned in midweek and ended his goal drought with a late stunner against Fenerbahce. That goal took him to within two of Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time record for the club, and he will hope to edge ever closer this afternoon, although goals have been very hard to come by for the beleaguered skipper of late.
Paul Pogba also retains his place in the side despite being forced off after just half an hour against Fenerbahce having picked up a knock to his leg. The world's most expensive player has recovered in time to start here, though, joining Mata and Rooney in the trio behind the striker. There are also changes further back in midfield as Fellaini and Carrick both come into the starting XI in place of the suspended Herrera and Schneiderlin.
In defence, there is a surprise start for Phil Jones, who has not featured in a competitive game for the club since January due to injury. He replaces Blind, who drops to the bench, while Young also comes in for Luke Shaw, but is expected to start on the right with Darmian switching over to the left. In all, then, Mourinho has made no fewer than six changes to the side that was beaten in Turkey, including the likes of Martial and Rashford dropping to the bench.
That number of changes is perhaps an indication that Mourinho is unhappy with how his side have been performing of late, and there is no doubt that Swansea will feel that this is a good time to come up against the 20-time champions of England. As much as United are struggling at the moment, though, Swansea are in even greater need of a victory, with yesterday's results seeing them begin today joint bottom of the table courtesy of Sunderland's win over Bournemouth.
During their relatively short time in the Premier League, Swansea have tended to start well, but this season has been an exception. Their tally of just five points from 10 games is their worst start to a Premier League campaign, and by some distance too. Their previous lowest points tally at this stage of a Premier League season was 11 in 2013-14, which gives some indication of how far they are behind their recent campaigns.
Bob Bradley is still looking for his first win in charge of the club having only managed a point from his three games at the helm so far, and victory over Manchester United would certainly be a memorable way to end that wait. As I have already mentioned, he is still looking for that winning formula, but he will need to find it sooner rather than later as the Premier League is so unforgiving and managers cannot afford to spend too long acclimatising to the division.
Swansea's problems go back further than Bob Bradley, though, with Francesco Guidolin also unable to get things off to a flying start during the opening months of the campaign. The Swans did begin with a win, beating Burnley 1-0 on the opening day of the season, but they are winless in nine since then and have taken a measly two points from a possible 27 in that time. They have lost five of their last six league games heading into this one, and six of their last seven in all competitions.
Struggling teams usually rely on their home form to drag them through tough periods, but Swansea have been unable to do that so far and are still looking for their first win at the Liberty Stadium this season. They finished last term very impressively in front of their own fans, losing just one of their final eight home games of the 2015-16 campaign, but they have lost four and drawn two of their matches here this term - the same amount of defeats as they suffered in their previous 14 home games.
In fairness to Swansea, they have had a particularly tricky run of fixtures recently, playing Leicester, Chelsea, Southampton, Manchester City twice, Liverpool and Arsenal in succession before Watford and Stoke in their last two. Things don't get any easier with the visit of Manchester United today, though, while Everton and Tottenham are also to come in two of the next three, so it is hard to see their poor run of form coming to an end anytime soon really.
It will be hard for Bob Bradley to determine just where to start turning things around at the club as they have problems at both ends of the field. Following yesterday's results, only Hull City have scored fewer in the Premier League this season, with Swansea averaging less than a goal per game, while defensively they have conceded at least two goals in seven of their last nine Premier League outings. They have also kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 outings in all competitions, although that did come in the recent goalless draw against Watford.
Those defensive stats must be music to the ears of a misfiring Manchester United, whose struggle for goals in recent years has not abated despite the arrival of Mourinho, Ibrahimovic, Pogba and co. They are in a particularly poor run of form at the moment having failed to score in their last three Premier League outings and with their last 67 shots. Anthony Martial's goal against Stoke City is the only successful shot that they have had from their last 91 in the Premier League too, so they can put their poor form down to some wayward finishing more than anything else.
Another blank today would see them go four games without scoring for the first time in Premier League history and the first time since April 1989, which goes to show how big their problem is at the moment. Of course, they have not been helped by a number of standout defensive performances against them in recent weeks, perhaps most notably of all came in their last league outing when Tom Heaton was unbeatable during the goalless draw with Burnley. They are the lowest scorers in the top eight, though, and they simply have to improve in the final third if they are to compete with those at the top end of the table.
The fact of the matter right now, though, is that they are not competing. Chelsea's victory yesterday means that United are now 10 points off the Premier League leaders - which is exactly how far they are away from bottom-of-the-table Sunderland. They are also equidistant between the top four and the relegation zone, with a gap of eight points separating them from both. Their poor start to the season has piled the pressure on almost every game now, so much so that today's match is almost a must-win already, despite it only being November.
Life under Mourinho started pretty brightly for United with three wins to start the campaign, but since then it has largely been a story of frustration for the Red Devils. They have won just one of their last seven outings in the Premier League and are winless in their last four since beating Leicester City 4-1 on September 24. Their form in all competitions isn't much better either, and they come into today's match having seen their Europa League hopes suffer a major blow courtesy of a 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce in Turkey on Thursday, leaving them third in Group A.
United will be without Mourinho on the touchline today as he serves his one-match ban after being sent off against Burnley in the last league game, and it will be interesting to see how the team reacts to that. Once the 'Special One' and regarded as one of the best managers in the world, Mourinho has really struggled since winning the Premier League title with Chelsea a couple of seasons ago. Indeed, he has won just eight of his last 26 Premier League games as a manager, with 12 defeats and six draws in that time too.

The visitors need a win today to avoid making their worst ever start to the Premier League season, which currently stands at 16 points from 11 games. United currently sit on 10 points after 15 outings, so a draw would equal their lowest ever tally while defeat would set a new mark. It certainly isn't what most people would have expected following a summer of such heavy investment in both the manager and players, and it would take some turnaround for Mourinho to recover from there.
United arrive at the Liberty Stadium having won just one of their last six away games in all competitions, with that coming against League One side Northampton Town in the EFL Cup. They are winless in the last three and have lost each of the last two, and another defeat here would make it three on the bounce for the first time since December 2015. In the Premier League United have only won five of their last 17 away games stretching back 12 months, and could today fail to score in three in a row for the first time since April 2005.
PREDICTION: Right, we're 10 minutes away from kickoff at the Liberty Stadium, which means that it is time for a prediction! This is a tough one to call considering both sides are in such poor form. On paper, you have to make United favourites today, but they have really struggled recently - especially away from home. Swansea have been no better here at the Liberty, though, so the two sides could cancel each other out here. I'm going for a 1-1 draw!
A 2-1 scoreline has been the favourite of this fixture in recent years, with six of the last eight ending that way, including each of the last four. Swansea have won four of those six, with United coming out on top twice, and it is today's hosts who have had the better of things against United in recent times. They have won three of their last four meetings, although the most recent one ended in victory for United.
That match came in January as Martial and Rooney scored either side of a Sigurdsson goal to hand United all three points at Old Trafford, but it is their record at the Liberty that will be the biggest concern this afternoon. They have lost on their last two visits to this ground - including a 2-1 defeat in the corresponding fixture last term - and another defeat would see Swansea become only the fifth team to win three home matches in a row against United in the Premier League era, after Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Southampton.
UPDATE: A quick update from elsewhere in the Premier League today as it is quite a busy Sunday in the top flight. Arsenal and Tottenham earlier shared the spoils in the North London derby, while Liverpool currently lead Watford 2-0 - a result that would take them top of the table - and Southampton are one up against Hull.
Right, the players are out and we're just about ready to go here! One interesting stat about United before we start - they have run the least distance in the Premier League this season, and have only outrun their opponents in one of their games - a league-low figure. In a season where the high press and high tempo game seems to be thriving, could a late of work rate be the key behind United's poor form?
KICKOFF: Here we go, then! Swansea get us underway at the Liberty!
CHANCE! An early opening for United as Rooney skips past one defender inside the box before trying to open up his body and curl it into the far bottom corner. However, he sends it narrowly wide of the far post.
Despite that early Rooney chance, Swansea have made a fairly bright start to the game too. They are looking threatening in the final third already, although De Gea is yet to be called into a save.
Bradley will be relatively pleased with his side's attitude in this opening five minutes or so. It is still very early days, of course, but the don't look like they have let their heads drop with their recent form.
United have taken a degree of control over possession now, but they aren't keeping it very well in the final third at the moment. Rooney in particularly has been guilty of giving it away a couple of times already.
Interestingly, United have started with Pogba in a deeper midfield role alongside Carrick, while Fellaini is playing further forward. The Belgian actually appears to be out on the right most of the time, with Mata in the middle and Rooney on the left, although that trio have been fairly fluid so far.
Almost a chance for Pogba to get in behind as Ibrahimovic nods it into his path. Ki looks set to cut it out, but he completely misses the ball and is fortunate that it also put Pogba off.
GOAL! Swansea 0-1 Manchester United (Paul Pogba)
Stunning. Absolutely stunning from Pogba, and suddenly he looks every bit an £89m player. The Frenchman starts the move by lifting the ball into the box which Rooney knocks back. Ibrahimovic loses in the air to Van der Hoorn, but the clearance only falls as far as Pogba, who unleashes the sweetest of volleys right into the top corner. An incredible strike from Pogba to end United's goal drought. What a way to do it!
CHANCE! Almost a quickfire second for United, and this time it is far too easy. Darmian finds space down the left to cut a cross back into the middle for Fellaini. The Belgian hooks his left foot around it, but steers his effort a couple of yards past the post.
Pogba is on the move again here as Mata tries something different with a long pass up the middle of the pitch. Pogba challenges the keeper in the air, but referee Neil Swarbrick awards a free kick to Fabianski.
The first five minutes or so were quite bright from Swansea, but they can't get any rhythm in their attack right now. They are standing off United and the visitors are looking very comfortable right now.
GOAL! Swansea 0-2 Manchester United (Zlatan Ibrahimovic)
United ended their goal drought with that Pogba strike, and now Zlatan has followed suit. This is far too easy, though, as the Swede collects the ball just outside the area before working space to shoot. Ki is beaten with a simple move to the side, and then Ibrahimovic's low strike sneaks past Fabianski and in. The keeper and defence both should have done better there, but you can see what that goal means to Ibrahimovic.
Boos cascaded down from the stands after that second goal, and you can't blame the fans. Swansea have started this match so passively and this is a real chance for United to get a few goals on the board. They are utterly dominant here.
Something needs to change for Swansea here. They are sitting far too deep, showing United too much respect and just allow the visitors to stroke the ball about at their own tempo. It has been a dreadful display from the hosts so far.
That Ibrahimovic strike was a landmark one in Premier League history...
This is shaping up to be exactly the type of match that United needed to regain a bit of confidence before the international break. Swansea are making things so easy for them.
Swansea just cannot keep hold of the ball for any length of time. They can't make the ball stick up front, and if they try to play it out from the back then United are quickly in amongst them.
GOAL! Swansea 0-3 Manchester United (Zlatan Ibrahimovic)
This could get embarrassing for Swansea very quickly. United have their third and Zlatan has his second, and once again it is a simple one. The Swede exchanges passes with Rooney before bundling through a couple of white shirts and firing his effort into the roof of the net.
United come forward again and this time it is Rooney who drives forward. He picks the ball up just inside the Swansea half and is not challenged by a single player on his way into the box before pulling a low cross/shot a long way wide.
The fans have turned on their new owners already at the Liberty Stadium. The supporters are very unhappy with how things are going right now, and on the evidence of this performance it is hard to blame them. The hosts have been truly dreadful here.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic must be licking his lips right now. He already has two goals, and the way Swansea have been playing he could easily bag four or five today. That wouldn't be a bad way to respond to the criticism he has received of late!
It's pass after pass after pass for United right now. They are having things all their own way, and Swansea are putting up such little resistance. This has been one of the most passive displays I have seen in a long, long time.
Almost another chance for United as Fellaini tries to take the ball down in the area, but Van der Hoorn just about gets a foot in before Routledge nicks the ball away from Rooney on the edge of the box.
There will be one minute of added time at the end of this one-sided first half.
HALF TIME: Swansea City 0-3 Manchester United
The first half comes to an end at the Liberty Stadium, then, and it is Manchester United who are in complete control at the halfway stage. I am struggling to remember a worse performance than we have seen from Swansea in that opening 45 minutes, and unless they improve immeasurably in the second half then this game is over already. Indeed, United will be thinking that they can get more here as the hosts are there for the taking.
It took the visitors just 15 minutes to end their three-game goal drought, and it came in some style too as Paul Pogba unleashed a brilliant volley right into the top corner. There was little Swansea could do about that one, but on the whole they have made things far too easy for United, and that was the case in the other two goals too.
It was Ibrahimovic who got the second and third strikes, including the 25,000th goal in Premier League history. The first saw him collect the ball on the edge of the box before firing past Fabianski, but the Swansea keeper - and, for that matter, the defence - should have done a lot better. Ibrahimovic doubled his personal tally shortly afterwards too, bundling through three white shirts before lashing his finish past the keeper.
There have also been sights of goal for Rooney and Fellaini in this utterly dominant display from United. It is certainly an improvement from the visitors, but as much as they deserve credit for their performance, they have been given such an easy time of things by Swansea. The hosts have shown United far too much respect, allowing them to simple play their own game under no pressure. There doesn't seem to be enough quality and, most worryingly of all, fight in this Swansea side at the moment.
KICKOFF: Manchester United get us underway for the second half, and unsurprisingly there are changes afoot for the hosts. On come Jefferson Montero and Modou Barrow for Routledge and Llorente.
Will Swansea come out firing in this second half? Bob Bradley must have got stuck into his players at the break as that first half was simply unacceptable. The changes should add some pace to the Swansea attack too, but it is a long way back if they have any hope of making a game of this.
No immediate signs of a vast improvement from the hosts, but then their problems look a lot bigger than something that can be sorted in a 15-minute teamtalk. They were dreadful on and off the ball in that first half and didn't put in any big challenges on United to upset their rhythm.
It's fair to say that this has been an easier return to first-team football than Phil Jones might have expected. He hasn't played since January, but he won't have worked up a sweat yet. He hasn't had anything to do.
Almost a chance for United again as Mata lifts the ball into the box for Ibrahimovic, who nods it down for Fellaini. The Belgian has one swipe with his left foot and then another with his right, but he can't get a shot away with either.
UPDATE: The second and third games of this bumper Sunday of Premier League action have come to an end, and it has been a very good day for both Liverpool and Hull. The former have gone top of the table courtesy of a 6-1 win over Watford, while Hull have come from behind to beat Southampton.
There is a flat atmosphere in the stadium, as you might expect, and right now the game is more like a training session. United are dictating the tempo and Swansea lack any belief that they can get back into this one.
There has been nothing to get the Swansea fans up for this one. There hasn't been a big challenge, a good attacking moment or any sign that their players are actually up for this one themselves. Things are looking very bleak for Swans right now.
Pogba collects the ball and drives forward with a powerful run down the left channel, skipping past Mawson but not taking the ball with him. He then loses his footing and Swansea are able to clear.
Swansea's pass accuracy today has been less than 80% compared to United's 92% - just one statistic that represents the huge gulf between these two sides here.
Swansea finally have an opportunity to do something in attack here as they win a free kick on the right flank, but Sigurdsson delivery is cleared away and a follow-up strike is blocked before it can reach De Gea.
SHOT! Swansea have a shot! This is their best attacking moment of the match, which is worrying, as Montero ducks inside past Mata before dragging an effort wide of the near post. It took a nick on the way through, so it will be a corner...
Sigurdsson whips a decent corner into the box that Mawson just can't reach at the near post. The ball is cleared as far as Rangel, who skews his first-time strike well wide from the edge of the area.
This has been a little better from Swansea in the last few minutes, and now they have a free kick in another decent crossing position...
GOAL! Swansea 1-3 Manchester United (Mike van der Hoorn)
A late flourish from the home side, perhaps? They score with their first real chance of the match as Sigurdsson curls a lovely free kick into the middle that Van der Hoorn nods into the bottom corner. It is still a long way back for the hosts, but that is at least a small positive on what has been a miserable afternoon for Bob Bradley's side.
That goal has just changed the atmosphere inside the stadium. Seconds before the free kick the fans were chanting that they want their club back, and now they are cheering on the team. Another goal would make things very interesting and would pile the pressure on a United side also struggling for results.
SWANSEA SUB: Swansea also made their third and final change in the aftermath of that goal, with Leroy Fer replacing Britton.
Suddenly there is a bit of belief about the hosts now. It is unlikely that they will come back from this deficit, but their performance since the hour mark has been much improved.
YELLOW CARD! The first card of the game is shown to Ibrahimovic for a foul on Fer, and it is a significant one as the Swede will now miss the match against Arsenal through suspension.
CLOSE! United almost restore their three-goal lead as Rooney collects Pogba's knockdown before driving into the box and pulling a ball back for Mata. Mata does well to react in time to steer it goalwards, but his effort rolls just past the far post.
YELLOW CARD! Mata also goes into the book for a foul on Montero.
MAN UTD SUB: United make a change with just under 10 minutes remaining as Jesse Lingard replaces Mata.
CHANCE! Chance for Swansea to create a grandstand finish to this game! The ball is flicked around the corner for Montero to run on to, and the winger finds himself driving into a very good position. He cuts back on himself before digging out a cross to Barrow at the far post, but he can't get enough on his volley and De Gea makes the save at the near post.
The Swansea fans are not happy here as Darmian goes down holding his knee and Barrow knocks the ball out of play despite being in a good position.
Rooney almost gets another goal towards Bobby Charlton's record having raced through on goal, taken it around the keeper and slotted it into the empty net, but he is flagged offside. That was a very tight one!
MAN UTD SUB: That is Rooney's last action too as he is replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin.
There will be three minutes of added time at the end of this match.
MAN UTD SUB: A late change for United as Pogba is replaced by Timothy Fosu-Mensah for all of a few seconds.
FULL TIME: Swansea City 1-3 Manchester United
Neil Swarbrick brings an end to proceedings at the Liberty Stadium, then, and boos greet the final whistle from the home fans. It is hard to blame them too as for the majority of that match Swansea were truly terrible. They threatened to make a game of it late on through
Mike van der Hoorn's consolation, but ultimately they left themselves too much to do following an abject first-half display. Pogba's wonder goal set United on their way before a Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace sent the visitors into the break with a three-goal lead, lifting United up to sixth in the table courtesy of their first win in five Premier League games.
That is all we have time for today! Thank you very much for joining
Sports Mole for today's Premier League clash between Swansea and Manchester United as the visitors return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the struggling Swans, who are still without a win under Bob Bradley. I will leave you with our
match report, and be sure to stick around for reaction from both camps too. From me, though, it is goodbye for now!
