Ryan Giggs believes that an Olympic gold medal would be as important to him as his European trophies with Manchester United.

Team GB captain Ryan Giggs has claimed that an Olympic Gold medal would be as important to him as his European silverware with Manchester United.

The 38-year-old Welshman will lead the British men's team out at Old Trafford tonight against Senegal in their opening Group A fixture.

"I'm still disappointed I never got to a major championship with Wales but we weren't good enough to get to a European Championships or World Cup," he told The Sun. "But to get the chance to play in a tournament at such a late stage of my career is obviously one I'm excited about and looking forward to.

"An Olympic gold would be up there with my European medals. I don't like to prioritise any medal or trophy, because it's always a good feeling when you win."

Giggs won 64 caps for his country before announcing his retirement in 2007.
