Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Tom Heaton receive their first England call-ups

Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Tom Heaton receive their first England call-ups as Roy Hodgson names his 24-man squad for next month's fixtures.

Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy and goalkeeper Tom Heaton have been named in an England senior side for the first time.

Manager Roy Hodgson has added the trio to his 24-man squad for next month's friendly against the Republic of Ireland and a Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia.

Recently-relegated Queens Park Rangers striker Austin has been included in the squad after scoring 17 goals in the Premier League, while Vardy's contribution to keeping Leicester City in the top flight has been rewarded.

Burnley shot-stopper Heaton is one of three goalkeepers including Joe Hart and Robert Green in the squad, while Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand will join the England setup as Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw miss out due to injuries.

Captain Wayne Rooney will lead the team, but his Manchester United teammate Ashley Young has been overlooked by Hodgson.
