Bosnich: Ferguson needs to replace Jones

Ex-Manchester United player Mark Bosnich thinks that Sir Alex Ferguson will be forced to buy new players next month due to Phil Jones's injury.

Former Manchester United player Mark Bosnich believes that Sir Alex Ferguson needs to scour the January transfer market for a temporary replacement for injured Phil Jones.

The 19-year-old was substituted following a clash of heads with Fulham's Clint Dempsey during the Red Devils' 5-0 win at Craven Cottage last night.

"Before the Phil Jones injury I didn't think he'd need to dip into the transfer market because of his versatility," Bosnich told talkSPORT. "But after that injury to his cheekbone he's going to be out for six to eight weeks plus another couple of weeks to get back to full fitness, it's inevitable that he's going to have to buy.

"I do think Ferguson would like to buy in the midfield area, someone like a Modric or Sneijder but because of circumstances i think he might have to get a little bit of cover at the back.

"As we've seen this season when Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are out they don't quite look the same unit at the back."

Ferguson previously claimed that he was not interested in bringing new additions to the Premier League champions next month.
