Edinson Cavani forced to wait for Manchester United debut due to quarantine rules?

Edinson Cavani is unlikely to be available to make his Manchester United debut against Newcastle United on October 17, according to a report.

Edinson Cavani is reportedly unlikely to be available to make his Manchester United debut in the Premier League clash with Newcastle United on October 17.

The Uruguay international officially joined the Red Devils on transfer deadline day, and it had been thought that the striker would feature against the Magpies with Anthony Martial serving a suspension.

However, according to The Times, the 33-year-old could be forced to wait to turn out for the Red Devils as under government guidelines, anyone arriving in the United Kingdom from France will have to quarantine for 14 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The majority of elite athletes are exempt from the rule, but the striker left Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer and has therefore been living with the general public, meaning that he is likely to have to self-isolate at home for the next fortnight, missing the Newcastle clash in the process.

Cavani, who has been handed the number seven shirt at Old Trafford, could therefore make his debut against former club PSG in the Champions League on October 20.

The South American tested positive for coronavirus earlier this summer following a trip to Ibiza.
