Chelsea are allegedly prioritising a deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz after missing out on Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
On Monday evening, reports emerged regarding the Blues being prepared to make a considerable effort to win the race to sign Havertz, who has starred in the Bundesliga this season.
However, while the Premier League outfit have been keen on the 20-year-old for some time, it has been claimed that the recent developments have coincided with their interest in another player.
According to ESPN, Chelsea are ready to admit defeat in their bid to sign Sancho, who appears increasingly likely to move to Manchester United.
Although RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is expected to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard is pushing to add another playmaker to his squad.
Havertz would likely cost in the region of £70m, less than Sancho who could be sold to United for approximately £100m.
