Collymore: 'Ferdinand is a hypocrite'

Stan Collymore accuses Rio Ferdinand of hypocrisy for failing to comment on the penalty incident involving his Manchester United teammate Ashley Young.

Rio Ferdinand has been branded a "hypocrite" by former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore.

The Manchester United defender was critical of Liverpool centre-forward Andy Carroll for diving against Newcastle United last weekend.

However, he is yet to pass judgement on the controversial penalty that his teammate Ashley Young won against Queens Park Rangers yesterday afternoon, resulting in the sending dismissal of Shaun Derry.

Collymore believes that Ferdinand's silence is an example of double standards.

"Rio Ferdinand tweeted after Andy Carroll went down at Newcastle that it's an absolute disgrace when players go over like a lorry has hit them in the 18-yard box," Collymore told talkSPORT.

"Yesterday he said nothing [about Young]. You know what, he's a hypocrite."

Earlier today, Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: "Strange how the Chelsea 'offside' goal hasnt had nearly as much airtime as the #ManUtd penalty decision in the media? #SwingsAndRoundabouts."

QPR boss Mark Hughes has confirmed that the club intend to appeal Derry's red card.
