Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest goalscorer of all time when he scored three times in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Portugal international has scored 18 times in 31 appearances for the Red Devils this season, and he created history with his treble against Spurs at Old Trafford.

As recognised by FIFA, Ronaldo equalled the record of 805 goals, held by Austrian-Czech Josef Bican, when he scored the first goal of the match against Antonio Conte's side in the late kickoff.

The 37-year-old then took the record when he scored Man United's second from close range, before registering his 807th professional goal when he headed his team's late winner.

Ronaldo's goals have come during spells at Sporting Lisbon, Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus, while his 115 strikes for Portugal are also taken into account, putting him clear as the greatest goalscorer in the history of men's professional football.

Brazilians Pele and Romario both scored more than 1000 goals during their careers, but the statistics include efforts in amateur and friendly encounters.
