Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has revealed that he sees Brad Friedel as an inspiration and wants to imitate the Tottenham keeper's long career.
The Spanish under 21 international also said he watches videos of the American to compare their styles.
The 21-year-old has found form at Old Trafford after enduring a tough start to his career in England. He spoke of his admiration for Friedel ahead of the clash between the sides on Sunday.
"I always valued his work and had heard good things about his performances in the Premier League and with the American team," said De Gea.
"I've watched him on video because it is interesting to compare yourself to other keepers.
"He is excellent in one-on-one situations and also when faced with free-kicks. Watching him makes me want to play for United when I'm 40!
"That's not easy and Friedel deserves great credit still to be playing. Keepers improve as the years go by but, at the moment, I'm still a baby."
De Gea joined United last summer in an £18.3m deal from Atletico Madrid.
