David de Gea is likely to start in goal for Manchester United against Chelsea on Sunday after reportedly proving his fitness to Sir Alex Ferguson.

David de Gea is expected to end Sir Alex Ferguson's goalkeeper woes by returning to the Manchester United starting lineup against Chelsea on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who has had a mixed start to his Red Devils career, was a doubt for this weekend's clash after he was ruled out through illness for the Premier League champions' 2-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday.

With Anders Lindegaard likely to be out of action for a month, Ben Amos has been Ferguson's only option.

It is understood that De Gea completed a double training session yesterday to convince the Red Devils boss that he is fit enough to start at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spanish youngster was criticised for his performance in United's FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Liverpool last week.
