Angel di Maria: 'Financial Fair Play stopped Paris Saint-Germain move'

Manchester United's Angel di Maria claims that Financial Fair Play prevented a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid in the summer.

Manchester United winger Angel di Maria has claimed that Financial Fair Play stopped him from joining Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Argentina international moved to United in August for a British-record fee of around £60m, and the ex-Los Blancos star revealed that he would have joined the Ligue 1 leaders had it not been for the UEFA ruling.

Di Maria told Telefoot: "PSG, I think they had a money problem and they couldn't buy players. This is the main reason I didn't go there. Playing in the French league would please a lot of players.

"Now I'm in the English league. But you never know, there is a lot of movement in football. You can never predict where you're going to play.

"There were a lot of clubs interested in me. A lot really. But Manchester United appeared and didn't go away. They absolutely wanted me and it happened."

Di Maria was part of the Argentina squad that were beaten in the World Cup final by Germany back in July.
