Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty tips David Moyes to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty believes that David Moyes is the man that will be chosen to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Ferguson revealed earlier this season that he was likely to continue in his role as boss of the Red Devils for another two or three seasons.

When the time comes for Ferguson to step down, Docherty expects Moyes to be given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Scot.

"Fergie will make the appointment of whoever takes his place, not the directors," Docherty told BBC Sport. I think it will be David Moyes because they are good friends. He's done a great job at Everton with no money.

"If I was a gambling man I would say David Moyes. He's an ex-player, but not a great player, just as Sir Alex wasn't a great player, but their records as managers are fantastic."

Docherty managed United between 1972 and 1977.
