Rio Ferdinand desperate for success with David Moyes

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand insists that his side have a strong chance of retaining their Premier League title under new manager David Moyes.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has insisted that his team are hungry to prove a point by retaining their Premier League title with new manager David Moyes.

United claimed their 20th title in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge, with Moyes under pressure to make his own mark at Old Trafford when his reign officially begins next month.

Ferdinand believes that winning the championship in Moyes's first season at the helm would be a unique achievement, with the veteran centre-back confident of continued success under a new boss.

He told The Sun: "To win the league under David Moyes would be phenomenal.

"Last season was one of the best when we won title No 20 but this could go beyond that. To win it at the first attempt with a new man in charge would be something special.

"Moyes is a real football man and an honest guy. His hard working ethic reflects the man himself and he obviously wants success. We've got a great chance with this manager."

Moyes will take charge of his first official match as United boss on August 11 in a Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic at Wembley.
