Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter this afternoon to praise three of the Premier League's stalwarts, who will retire after today's last round of matches.
Ferdinand's manager Sir Alex Ferguson will step down after 27 years in charge and so will his teammate Paul Scholes.
Also hanging up his boots is Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, and Ferdinand has paid tribute to all three.
"3 greats are bowing out of the game today. The Boss, Scholesy + Carragher. Thanks for the memories," wrote the 34-year-old.
"Jamie Carragher has been a top player for LFC, a great reader of the game and always demanded high standards of those around him, top lad too.
"Paul Scholes is the player I enjoyed playing alongside most. Controlled games, complete passing range, brave + scored goals - complete player."
Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Ferdinand is close to signing a new contract with United.
