Rio Ferdinand says that he is surprised at Tottenham Hotspur's decision to dismiss manager Harry Redknapp.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his surprise at the departure of Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp.

The 65-year-old parted company with the North London outfit yesterday following a 30-minute meeting, where it is understood that a contract extension was not offered to the former Portsmouth coach.

Ferdinand tweeted: "Just woke up to news Harry Redknapp is no longer Spurs manager???? Wow!! I Thought he was doing a great job there...."

Reports have claimed that Redknapp is open to taking up a new job in management for next season as long as the right offer is made.
