Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand ahead of their landmark match against Wigan Athletic tomorrow.

The United trio could all reach milestone appearances for the Red Devils, with Giggs set to play in his 600th Premier League game, while Scholes and Ferdinand could make their 700th and 400th appearances for the club respectively.

Ferguson believes that the trio's longevity should inspire younger players to make the same sacrifices, and also backed Giggs to carry on playing for even longer.

"It is a landmark for three key players. It is a great example to younger players of what could be achieved if you sacrifice in the game of football," said Ferguson.

"These players have had to do that, otherwise they would never have got to this stage.

"Ryan could probably play for another couple of years. Paul is a different physical specimen and has had his injuries."

Should Giggs play tomorrow he will become the first player to reach the landmark of 600 Premier League games, extending his lead over David James, who has 572.
