Sir Alex Ferguson relishes late drama

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that winning matches in dramatic circumstances has become part of Manchester United's DNA during his time at the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that he relishes the late goals which have become synonymous with his reign at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been on target in the closing stages with alarming regularity this season, a trend which continued with Robin van Persie's late equaliser at West Ham United last weekend.

Ferguson thinks that he must take the drama in his stride because winning in the final few minutes produces the most memorable victories for supporters and players alike.

He told the club's official magazine: "At the end of the day, the finish to these games sends everybody home absolutely over the moon. They'll be walking down the street towards their cars, or getting in their cars and driving home, telling each other, 'What a game, absolutely fantastic'.

"I suppose the excitement of games like the Boxing Day win over Newcastle gets everyone going. You'd rather do without it, but being the manager of Manchester United you have to relish it and expect it to happen. That's just the club. That's how it is."

United have built a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after 21 games.
