Manchester United's Darren Fletcher to miss start of season

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has revealed that he expects to miss the start of the season as he recovers from bowel surgery.

The 29-year-old Scot underwent an operation in January to combat the ulcerative colitis that he has been suffering with in recent years.

When asked by BBC Sport when he would be back in action, Fletcher said: "Hopefully, not too long after the start of the season. I think I will just miss the beginning of the season."

Fletcher's last appearance for United came back in December.
