Ryan Giggs: 'Manchester United can challenge Chelsea'

Ryan Giggs says that Man United can kick on from their achievements in the 2014-15 campaign providing they tackle their consistency problems.

Manchester United assistant boss Ryan Giggs is confident that the Red Devils have the quality needed to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

United are on the brink of re-qualifying for the Champions League after finishing fourth in Louis van Gaal's first season, but will need to negotiate a playoff tie in August.

Van Gaal's side picked up five points from as many games in the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign, and Giggs says that the key to a title tilt hinges on a good start next time around.

"We've had a pretty good start and are back in the Champions League, which is exciting," the Welshman is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I think we can achieve a lot as we have shown this year we are capable of matching the best teams in the league.

"Now we just have to work on our consistency, and if we get off to a good start next season we can definitely do that."

United kick off the new league season by hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on August 8.
