Javier Hernandez signs a new deal keeping him at Old Trafford until 2016.

Manchester United have confirmed that Javier Hernandez has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old Mexican forward joined Old Trafford in summer 2010 and made an instant impact in his debut season, notching up 13 goals in 27 league appearances.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson compared Chicharito to former United player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who managed 91 goals for the club between 1996 and 2007.

"The last player I remember making an impact as big and as quickly as Javier is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he reminds me of Ole a lot," said Ferguson.

"His talent for creating space in the box and his finishing ability mark him out as a natural goalscorer. Off the pitch, he is a pleasure to manage. He works very hard and is a popular member of the squad."

Hernandez said of the deal: "Playing for Manchester United has been a dream come true for me. I never expected my first year to go so well and I'm delighted to commit my future to United.

"To win a title and appear in a Champions League final was fantastic. I'm looking forward to helping my teammates as we bid to win more trophies for this great club."

The news comes the morning after United's crushing 6-1 home defeat to rivals Man City.
