Paul Lambert backs Christian Benteke to find form

Paul Lambert says that Christian Benteke will come through his barren spell in front of goal for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has backed Christian Benteke to rediscover his goal-scoring touch.

The Belgian striker blazed 19 goals in the Premier League last season, but has now gone 10 games without finding the net following today's 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United.

"He will come through it," the Scot told reporters. "His endeavour was there.

"He is not getting the breaks he had last year but he will go through stages like this in his career."

The 23-year-old, who retracted a transfer request in the summer, last scored in a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in September.
