Liverpool are named as the club with the most valuable squad in the transfer market across Europe's top five leagues, according to CIES Football Observatory.

Liverpool have been named as the club with the most valuable squad in the transfer market across Europe's top five leagues.

The Reds are currently 25 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and are just two wins away from their first top flight title in 30 years, and Jurgen Klopp's side have now overtaken Pep Guardiola's men in terms of player values too.

According to research carried out by CIES Football Observatory, Liverpool have put together a squad that has a total value of £1.27bn, pipping Manchester City by £3m.

Having won the Champions League last season and lifted the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this campaign, the Reds have fended off competition from their English rivals, as well as Spanish duo Barcelona and Real Madrid, to receive this accolade.

The La Liga giants are separated by a sum of just £63m, while Chelsea occupy fifth spot with a value of £917m, with their value recognised due to the emergence of many young talents following the transfer ban imposed by FIFA.

Fellow Champions League hopefuls Manchester United sit in sixth place and Tottenham Hotspur also make the top ten, with Jose Mourinho's side taking ninth spot, despite their recent struggles.

The findings by CIES are the results of a number of variables that take into account the length of contract remaining for players, the age, career progression, international status and performances in competitions for both club and country.
