Louis van Gaal: 'We got our rewards at Newcastle United'

Louis van Gaal believes that Manchester United deserved to take all three points from their Premier League clash at Newcastle United.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has stated his belief that his side were deserved winners against Newcastle United this evening.

The Red Devils left it late to secure a 1-0 victory at St James' Park, as Ashley Young tucked the ball home in the 89th minute following an error from Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Van Gaal believes that the manner of the goal sums up his side's tenacity to win.

"It was a crazy run from Wayne Rooney, a lost ball, that shows the fighting spirit in this team," the United boss told ESPN.

"We want to win. All my changes were to win, not to hold the result."

United are fourth in the Premier League table following the result.
