Manchester United will have the chance to set a new Premier League record when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford for Saturday's Premier League contest.

Manchester United will have the chance to make Premier League history when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils have seen their top-four hopes dented by consecutive Premier League defeats to Fulham and their local rivals Manchester City.

Marcus Rashford produced a stunning strike to give Man United the lead in last Sunday's Manchester derby, but it ultimately counted for very little, as Man City turned the game back in their favour thanks to a Phil Foden brace and an Erling Haaland effort.

The sixth-placed side are now six points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth and 11 points away from Aston Villa in fourth position.

Not only will Man United be hoping to return to winning ways on Saturday, but they are also looking to achieve a new Premier League record.

If they can claim their 41st Premier League win over Everton, it would give them the outright record for the most victories by one club against another in the competition.

Man United may fancy their chances of creating a piece of Premier League history, having won each of their four competitive games against Everton since Erik ten Hag took charge in the summer of 2022.

Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial and Rashford all got on the scoresheet in November's reverse fixture to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory at Goodison Park.

The hosts have also avoided defeat in each of their previous 10 home meetings with the Toffees since suffering a 1-0 loss in December 2013.

Although they will be desperate to claim all three points, Man United's first priority will be to avoid another defeat after losing 16 of their 38 league and cup games this season.

Incidentally, the Red Devils have not lost 17 matches in a single campaign since the 1989-90 season when they finished 13th but managed to win the FA Cup.

They are also at risk of losing three consecutive top-flight matches for the first time in Ten Hag's Man United tenure.

If the Red Devils are to claim a positive result, they will have to do it without the services of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Martial.
