Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has given his backing to David Moyes ahead of his move to Manchester United.
The Portuguese boss was an early contender to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford following the 71-year-old's decision to step down from the helm after a glittering 26-year career.
Despite reports that Mourinho, who is heavily linked with a return to Chelsea this summer, could take the hotseat at the Premier League-winning club, it has been confirmed that Moyes will move to United on a six-year deal.
"I wish Sir Alex a happy life, and I wish David a successful career," Sky Sports News quotes Mourinho as saying. "I think David is a great choice. I like him as a person, I like his character as a manager.
"I believe Manchester United will support him, I think he has the qualities to do a good job. We are good friends, and my good friends know which club I would like to manage when I finish my work at Real Madrid."
Mourinho left Stamford Bridge in 2007 after three years at the club.
