John Murtough reportedly turned down the advances of Inter Miami before accepting the chance to become Manchester United's new football director.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils announced that Murtough had been promoted from his role of head of football development to a position of overall responsibility for football matters.
According to The Sun, Inter Miami, who are now managed by Phil Neville, held talks with Murtough over the possibility of being part of David Beckham's project with the MLS club.
However, Man United's new football director turned down the chance to move to North America and instead accepted the position at Old Trafford.
The 20-time English champions also announced on Wednesday that the club's former midfielder Darren Fletcher had been appointed the club's first technical director.
Man United are currently second in the Premier League table, while they will face AC Milan in the last-16 stage of the Europa League and Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
