Norwich City's on-loan defender Brandon Williams issues a response following his controversial Instagram post on Sunday.

Norwich City's on-loan defender Brandon Williams has issued a response following his controversial Instagram post on Sunday.

The 21-year-old caused controversy following the club's 4-0 defeat to West Ham United at the weekend, when he uploaded a picture of himself putting up a middle finger with the caption: "What a beautiful day. Easy up Norwich City."

Following claims that he was abused and followed by fans in the wake of the heavy loss, Williams also followed up with a picture of his dog, posting: "For the people that followed me, he's always awake."

However, the posts have since been deleted, and following reports that the Canaries were investigating the social media posts of the Manchester United loanee, the 21-year-old has now responded on Monday.

"Yesterday after leaving the stadium I was taunted and abused by fans surrounding the stadium whilst I was in my car. After the abuse I was followed by individuals who only stopped following me once they became aware I had noticed them," a statement read.

"However passionate fans are it is not right that a small minority abuse players or, in this case, follow them. Since arriving at Norwich I have played for the club as if I were a permanent member of the team.

"There is no club investigation into my conduct as incorrectly reported in the media. I would like to thank those fans who have sent me messages of support at this unsettling time. I would also like to thank Norwich City and their staff for the support they have given me in the past two days and for their concern."

Despite the best efforts of Williams in his 26 Premier League appearances on loan at Carrow Road this season, the Norfolk side have already had their immediate return to the Championship confirmed in recent weeks.
