Andreas Pereira talks up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer impact at Manchester United

Midfielder Andreas Pereira suggests that he only remained at Manchester United because of the influence of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Andreas Pereira has revealed that a chat with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced him to remain at Manchester United.

After moving to Old Trafford in 2014, Pereira struggled for opportunities in the first team, leading to loaning spells at Granada and Valencia respectively.

However, the Brazilian has established himself in the first-team squad since the arrival of Solskjaer, with 15 outings coming in the Premier League this season.

Aware that he required more opportunities at this stage of his career, Pereira has acknowledged that he could have taken a different path had Solskjaer not placed faith in his ability.

The 23-year-old is quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying: "He has been massive for me. Perhaps if he had not been at the club, I might not have been at the club as well.

"I have to be thankful. He spoke to me and said I would get more opportunities with him. He said if I get better and better then I will play more and more and that's what has happened.

"In the summer I was thinking about my options. Yes, I was a bit worried but I always wanted to stay here because Manchester is my home. I've been here since I was 16 years old so I am very happy that the manager is staying and I want to stay with him too."

Pereira penned a new contract earlier this year keeping him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
