Report: Louis van Gaal on brink of losing job as Manchester United manager

Louis van Gaal is reportedly on the brink of losing his job as Manchester United manager following talks between the players and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Manchester United could soon be without a manager as Louis van Gaal has reportedly lost the backing of the dressing room.

The Dutchman's future has been a major talking point this season as the team have struggled for consistency.

The Red Devils, who recently went nine games without picking up a win, were booed off the pitch following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has approached the senior players about Van Gaal's methods and it has been confirmed to him that the team have lost faith in the former Netherlands boss.

The report has claimed that the club will turn to assistant manager Ryan Giggs to take interim charge of the team until the end of the season should they opt to part company with Van Gaal.

However, it is believed that the Welshman wants a permanent role and substantial funds to spend in order to shape his own team.

Van Gaal's contract does not expire until the end of the 2016-17 season.
